چکیده

We present the first bioluminescence tomography algorithm that makes use of the PDEconstrained concept, which has shown to lead to significant savings in computation times in similar applications. Implementing a sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method, we solve the forward and inverse problems simultaneously. Using numerical results we show that the PDEconstrained SQP approach leads to ~10 fold increase in convergence when compared to a standard unconstrained method. ©2011 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (170.3010) Image reconstruction techniques; (170.6280) Spectroscopy, fluorescence and luminescence

Multilevel bioluminescence tomography based on radiative transfer equation part 2: total variation and l1 data fidelity.

In this paper we study the regularization with both l1 and total-variation norm for bioluminescence tomography based on radiative transfer equation, compare l1 data fidelity with l2 data fidelity for different type of noise, and propose novel interior-point methods for solving related optimization problems. Simulations are performed to show that our approach is not only capable of preserving sh...

PDE-constrained multispectral imaging of tissue chromophores with the equation of radiative transfer

We introduce a transport-theory-based PDE-constrained multispectral model for direct imaging of the spatial distributions of chromophores concentrations in biological tissue. The method solves the forward problem (boundary radiance at each wavelength) and the inverse problem (spatial distribution of chromophores concentrations), in an all-at-once manner in the framework of a reduced Hessian seq...

Three Dimensional Laminar Convection Flow of Radiating Gas over a Backward Facing Step in a Duct

In this study, three-dimensional simulations are presented for laminar forced convection flow of a radiating gas over a backward-facing step in rectangular duct. The fluid is treated as a gray, absorbing, emitting and scattering medium. The three-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system is used to solve the governing equations which are conservations of mass, momentum and energy. These equations...

Gauss–Newton reconstruction method for optical tomography using the finite element solution of the radiative transfer equation

The radiative transfer equation can be utilized in optical tomography in situations in which the more commonly applied diffusion approximation is not valid. In this paper, an image reconstruction method based on a frequency domain radiative transfer equation is developed. The approach is based on a total variation output regularized least squares method which is solved with a Gauss–Newton algor...

ANALYSIS OF COMBINED CONDUCTION AND RADIATION HEAT TRANSFER IN A RECTANGULAR FURNACE INCLUDING TWO FLAMES

Abstract: The present study deals the theoretical modeling aspects of coupled conductive and radiative heat transfer in the presence of absorbing, emitting and scattering gray medium within two-dimensional square furnace including two flames. The gray radiative medium is bounded by isothermal walls which are considered to be opaque, diffuse and gray. The well known discrete ordinate method (DOM...
